Daily Maintenance Guide for Telehandler
Telehandlers are widely used in construction, agriculture, and logistics for their versatility. Regular daily maintenance ensures operational safety, improves work efficiency, and minimizes downtime. The following maintenance steps should be implemented systematically:
1. Pre-Operation Inspection
Fluid & Filter Check: Inspect the levels of engine oil, hydraulic oil, diesel fuel, and coolant. Check for leaks in the hydraulic system, fuel lines, and cooling system. Examine the air filter, oil filter, and fuel filter for clogging or damage.
Tire & Wheel Inspection: Check the tire pressure (adjust according to the load and terrain), tread wear, and sidewall for cuts or bulges. Inspect the wheel rims for deformation and ensure the wheel nuts are tightly fastened. For telehandlers with solid tires, check for excessive wear or damage.
Boom & Lifting System Check: Examine the boom for cracks, weld defects, or excessive wear. Check the lifting chains, cables, and hooks for damage, deformation, or corrosion. Ensure the boom’s hydraulic cylinders and hoses are in good condition without leakage. Test the boom lifting, lowering, and telescoping functions to ensure smooth operation.
Safety & Control System Check: Verify that the safety belt, rollover protection structure (ROPS), and falling object protection structure (FOPS) are intact. Test the operation of the joysticks, brakes, and steering system. Check the warning lights, horn, and backup alarm to ensure they work properly.
2. In-Operation Monitoring
Performance Monitoring: Pay attention to the engine’s operating status, including speed, temperature, and oil pressure. Monitor the hydraulic system’s performance—ensure the boom moves smoothly without jitter or slow response. If any abnormal noise, vibration, or smell is detected, stop operation immediately.
Load & Terrain Safety: Strictly adhere to the rated load capacity and do not exceed the maximum lifting height or outreach. Avoid operating on excessively steep or uneven terrain. When lifting heavy loads, keep the boom as low as possible to maintain stability.
Control Operation Check: Regularly test the brakes (service brake, parking brake) and steering system during operation. Ensure the controls are responsive and accurate. If the telehandler is equipped with a 4WD system, check the switching function between 2WD and 4WD if needed.
3. Post-Operation Maintenance
Cleaning: Clean the entire telehandler, focusing on the boom, lifting components, engine compartment, and cab. Remove dust, dirt, and debris that may cause component wear or blockage. Clean the cab interior and ensure the control panel is free of dirt.
Lubrication & Component Check: Apply lubricating grease to all moving parts, including boom hinges, pivot points, and steering joints, in accordance with the maintenance manual. Check the wear condition of the boom’s wear pads and replace them if necessary. Tighten any loose bolts, nuts, or fasteners.
Parking & Storage: Park the telehandler on a flat, level surface. Lower the boom to the lowest position and retract it fully. Engage the parking brake and turn off the engine. If the telehandler will not be used for an extended period, drain any water from the fuel system (in cold weather) and disconnect the battery to prevent discharge. Cover the machine to protect it from dust and moisture.
Note: Always refer to the equipment’s official maintenance manual for specific maintenance intervals, lubricant specifications, and component replacement standards. Regular professional inspections and maintenance are also recommended to ensure the long-term reliable operation of mixer trucks and telehandlers.
